smothering french wendy

In an effort to overcome her unfortunate beginnings, she sought artistic torment at the University of Victoria, but despair eluded her. But that familiarity shouldn't deter readers weary of the genre. Claire's got big problems: her mother's a tyrant, her sister's a lesbian, and her father's in Omaha. A smart, fast, funny take on mother-daughter relationships, boyfriend-girlfriend disasters, and the career-girl blues. I had always seen it at my local library and the pink cover and picture with a girl snarling out the window at her mother was too difficult to avoid---it's obvious that most of us will be able to identify with this character! Meet Claire McLeod, a twenty-something American girl living in Portland, Oregon. It's not enough that Claire's job as a telephone survey-taker is excruciatingly irritating and her boyfriend has dumped her.

Pros I enjoyed the descriptive writing in this book. Unable to accept the prospect of becoming a mother, Megan fights her harried way through her days while dodging unwanted relatives and finding little opportunity to talk with Matt about the couple's options. Dust jacket has small crease along top edge and small bump at spine top of dj. It was a light and fluffy fun read. From start to finish, French had me laughing and relating to the characters.

The E-mail message field is required. A smart, fast, funny take on mother-daughter relationships, boyfriend-girlfriend disasters, and the career-girl blues. I would recommend this to fans of chick-lit, fiction, family related stories and humor. Finally, she conceded defeat, abandoned her quest for misery, and began writing humorous women's fiction. No, now, embarrassed by her dead-end job and flatlining love life, she must also bear the weight of Mom's critical eagle eye while trying to close the rift between her mother and her sister, solve the riddle of her missing father, climb a shaky corporate ladder, stalk a cute coworker, reinvent herself, and maybe—just maybe—find a little happiness. Others have posted good reviews about the plot, characters, yadayadayada.

She complains about her mother, her job, her love life. A smart, fast, funny take on mother-daughter relationships, boyfriend-girlfriend disasters, and the career-girl blues. Several others have provided you with great summaries of this story, so I'll keep it short and just say that I was pleased with this book and especially enjoyed how the author mentioned places in and around Portland that I am familiar with. Worse, Claire finds that she has to act as go-between and peacemaker between her happier lesbian sister and her homophobic mother. This did a 2 page happily ever after ending that I wasn't crazy about. Now meet Claire McLeod, a twenty-something American girl living in Portland, Oregon. Even worse, Claire must act as mediator between her lesbian sister and her homophobic mother.

It was a light and fluffy fun read. It's not enough that Claire's job as a telephone survey-taker is excruciatingly irritating and her boyfriend has dumped her. She sees her man again, and she gets a new job. They were believable and each of them seemed like someone I know. Wendy French's quick wit and fun dialogue made me want to read more! But even worse is trying to negotiate a reconciliation between her mother and her once-favored older sister, now divorced and living with her girlfriend. Her telemarketing job offers little satisfaction, she has few friends, and her boyfriend has dumped her. About this Item: Forge Books, 2003.

Claire's got big problems - her mother's a tyrant, her sister's a lesbian and her father's in Omaha. I felt like that was a backstory most of the time. Now meet Claire McLeod, a twenty-something American girl living in Portland, Oregon. Crisis follows intrusion as her sister has a breakdown and imposes upon Megan and Matt to care for her infant child, a cranky and insistent baby dubbed the Pink Tyrant. About this Item: Forge Books, 2003. I started it one night and realized that I had read over 100 pages. This book is full of laughs from the first page until you read the last sentence.

I started it one night and realized that I had read over 100 pages. It was definitely a character driven plot. Just the right speed for the story, and a wonderful look at how mixed up families can be at times. The main character was likable finally. Claire is a character women will identity with, whatever their age. Her apartment is clean, her job is up in the air after she didn't sleep with her boss, she gets back together with her ex once she realized that her own fears drove him away. I like the comedic romance mysteries better.

The problem with all romances is they are always the same: always a very stupid misunderstanding. The ending was very abrupt. It was a light and fluffy fun read. Claire's got big problems: her mother's a tyrant, her sister's a lesbian, her father's in Omaha. If you're in the mood for that and I was, after slogging through Look Homeward, Angel , you'll probably enjoy this one.

Claire's got big problems: her mother's a tyrant, her sister's a lesbian, and her father's in Omaha. Now meet Claire McLeod, a twenty-something American girl living in Portland, Oregon. Armed with a sharp tongue, a critical eye, and enough Weekender Wear to make anyone nervous, Mom has mysteriously left Dad at home in the Midwest. Matt's unkempt, alcoholic Uncle Tony moves unbidden into the Ismores' basement, and Megan's younger nouveau-hippie sister camps out on the living room couch. No, now, embarrassed by her dead-end job and flatlining love life, she must also bear the weight of Mum's critical eagle-eye while trying to close the rift between her mother and her sister Mum can't understand why Claire's sister insists on being a lesbian , solve the riddle of her missing father, climb a shaky corporate ladder, stalk a cute co-worker in hopes of reviving her love life, reinvent herself, and maybe, just maybe, find a little happiness. I started it one night and realized that I had read over 100 pages. The main character was just a little too laid back.
